Persimmon

My dad's friend,  who is based in Baguio, brought this fruit to our house as "pasalubong."  It was my first time to actually see and taste the fruit.  I asked him what it was, but he couldn't remember the name of the fruit. It took a few more days before I was able to get the name of the fruit.:) I visited my aunt in the province, and I saw several of these fruit displayed on her table. I asked my aunt's daughter what it was, and she told me that it's persimmon.

Finally my quest for knowing the name of the fruit ended.  But was it parsimmons? or persimmon? Hehehe. I found myself using google just to get the right spelling.

Isn't persimmon a lovely name for the fruit?  I love typing the word persimmon on my keyboard. Persimmon came from the edible fruit trees from the genus Diospyros. Diospyros means fire of Zeus. Is the persimmon, the fruit of gods? Persimmon is rich in vitamin C and Calcium. :)

But I must admit that I like the name but I don't enjoy eating it as much as I enjoy hearing the word. The fruit given to me had a crunchy outer texture just like that of singkamas with a soft inner core  like that of chico where the seeds are. It's a little bland for my taste. I only get to eat a piece because the other fruit was eaten by my father and he said that his was very sweet.  My father liked the fruit so much.

Do you love eating persimmon?
