Nutritious Malunggay

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 ·

Malunggay or moringa oelifera is one of the healthiest vegetables.  It is loaded with so much vitamins and minerals.  According to studies made, an ounce of malunggay has the same amount of vitamin C in seven oranges, gram for gram twice the amount of calcium in milk, four times the amount of vitamin A in carrot and three times the amount of potassium in banana.

Many lactating mothers drink boiled leaves of malunggay because of its high calcium content and for iron.

Studies also show that malunggay is good for fever, asthma and arthritis.

But many don’t like to eat vegetables, plus this particular vegetable is not really pleasant to taste for many people.  I for one dislike malunggay when I was younger, but I have grown to love malunggay.

One of the things that my Father does to make my siblings and I J eat malunggay is placed it on our favorite Tinola like the dish below or make ginataang malunggay with shrimps.

Knowing how healthy malunggay is, one should have this vegetable as a regular viand.  Not only is it healthy but it is also inexpensive.  Our supply of malunggay comes from the tree on my grandfather’s front lawn.
